Visiting Salvation Army Camps allows us to see and experience the profound impact our fundraising efforts have on the lives of campers. In May, The Salvation Army Thrift Store launched its annual GoodWorks@Work® Send a Kid to Camp Campaign, an initiative that enables us to support children across the country.
Through the generosity of 64,563 donors, our retail teams successfully raised $168,885 – enough to send 675 kids to camp! These funds remain within the local community in which they were raised and allow local children to attend camp and have incredible experiences they will remember for the rest of their lives.

Attending a Salvation Army camp can be life changing for kids who are given the opportunity to make life-long friendships, feel good about who they are, and learn new skills such as kayaking, rock climbing, swimming, etc.
This year, our visits to various Salvation Army camps allowed us to see these transformative experiences in action. We visited Jackson’s Point Camp and Camp Gitchigomee, both in Ontario, Scotian Glenn Camp in Nova Scotia, Camp Sunrise in British Columbia, Pine Lake Camp in Alberta, and Beaver Creek Camp in Saskatchewan.
“Our teams were able to interact with camp leaders and the kids, and it was truly inspiring to see how the hard work of our employees in the stores directly translates into unforgettable experiences for these children. The donations we collect don’t just send kids to camp—they create memories and opportunities that change lives.” says Ted Troughton, Managing Director at The Salvation Army Thrift Store.
By visiting the camps in person, our teams can see the joy Salvation Army camps bring to children in our shared communities. These visits enable us to share the tangible impact of our fundraising efforts with colleagues, Guests and donors, inspiring our teams for future campaigns. We can’t wait to visit again next year!
