Maintenance Worker - Oakville National Home Office (Full-Time)

As a Maintenance Worker, this position provides assistance with the maintenance of the Oakville NRO Home Office, Oakville DRC, Scarborough Office and DRC, CRC’s and Thrift Stores in the East Central Region, and the surrounding grounds. The incumbent will perform a wide range of skilled mechanical preventative maintenance tasks and building repair work; perform general upkeep of the external property; and provide required sanitation and cleaning. The incumbent is part of a team responsible for the provision of a safe and comfortable building environment for all clients and staff.

Accountabilities:
1. Maintenance
• Completes assigned facility work orders for repairs, maintenance, and preventative tasks in a timely and thorough manner, within the skillset of the incumbent.
• Resolves minor troubleshooting of building systems.
• Assemble and Install store fixtures, shelving, wall standards & grids.
• Disassemble store fixtures.
• Minor repairs to bins, pallet trucks, shopping carts.
• Drywall repairs, minor plumbing repairs, change light bulbs, minor floor and tiles repairs and replacement.
• Performs painting and patching.
• Completes adjustments and required repairs, as assigned or by following instructions, to The Salvation Army standards and in accordance with maintenance procedures.
• Cleans, maintains, and services equipment and tools.
• As assigned by Supervisor, organizes, and maintains supplies required for site operation; takes inventory count.
2. Administrative Responsibilities Related to Maintenance:
• Completes daily logs and required records for all maintenance, grounds keeping, and custodial tasks performed each day.
• Follows established procedures and documentation for inventory tracking.
• Attends meetings as requested by the Supervisor.
• Completes and renews as required, all Salvation Army mandatory training and training required for the position.
• May assist in preparing request for purchase order requisitions with all required backup as instructed.
• Communicates with vendors and contractors when required in consultation with supervisor.
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Internal: Team members
External: Contractors, vendors, and volunteers.
MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:
• This role reports directly to Property Manager.
• No direct reports. May show others how to perform certain procedures.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
• The incumbent has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources.
• Minor material responsibility (hand tools, electrical equipment, etc.)
• May be authorized to handle small amounts of cash or a store credit card.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Work is sometimes conducted in disagreeable conditions such as noise from equipment & shop tools.
• Working in confined spaces and heights (performing overhead maintenance and/or repair work up to 35 feet up), inclement weather and extreme temperatures (heat/cold).
• Exposure to toxic chemicals and electrical hazards.
• Exposure to bodily fluids and dealing with angry people.
• Role requires frequent travel to NRO Thrift Stores and other NRO sites within Ontario. Occasional overnight travel may be required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Satisfactory Police Information Check (PIC).
• Valid Ontario G Drivers License and satisfactory Ontario Drivers Abstract.
• Standard First Aid/Level A or C CPR.
• WHMIS training.
• Alternative combination of education and experience might be considered.
• Ladder safety training.
• Working at heights certification.
• May be required to obtain scissor lift training.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
• A minimum of one (1) year of related experience in building operations, including heat plant, HVAC and general repairs (i.e., electrical & plumbing).
• Knowledge and ability to use computers and related technology, i.e., Outlook, Word Processing, creating and managing EXCEL spreadsheets.
Skills and Capabilities:
• Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army – its mission, culture, and values.
• Able to proficiently perform necessary maintenance tasks in all, or some, of the following areas: plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, carpentry.
• Can safely and efficiently operate company vehicles and machinery (i.e., grass mowers, snow blower, snow brush, power washer, etc.)
• Can safely use hand and power tools.
• Strength and agility, and able to endure frequent walking, bending, kneeling, lifting heavy materials (up to 30 lbs with no assistance and up to 50 lbs with assistance), as well as ability to stand for extended periods, especially in performing groundskeeping duties (i.e., raking leaves,
grass cutting, snow shoveling.)
• Comfortable climbing on, and working off, ladders at various heights (painting, dusting, changing light bulbs, cleaning eavestrough, pruning trees), as well as performing various maintenance and cleaning tasks from an elevated platform (30+ feet above ground.)
• Able to attend to the worksite outside of regular schedule.
