With September just around the corner it’s the perfect time for back to school thrifting. Either jazz up your wardrobe, prep the kids or refresh your homework space. You’ll find just what you need at your local Salvation Army Thrift Store on a budget.

Here are 5 things to look for in your back to school thrifting adventures:

1. Bags and cases

Buy or make your own school bags and cases. You can always find a backpack and other bags at your local Salvation Army Thrift Store. Or why not upcycle a secondhand find into a bag or case. I repurposed a thrifted jacket into a case for my laptop.

Or try upcycling a t-shirt into a bag.

2. Office accessories

Get yourself set up for doing homework at home. Pen holders, storage containers and supply organizers can easily be found at your local Salvation Army Thrift Store. You can restyle finds to add your own flair to your workspace.

3. Hats, mittens & scarves

The cold weather will come soon enough. Look for hats & scarves in your thrifting travels. You can also upcycle secondhand wool sweaters into mittens, hats and/or scarves.

4. Clothes & shoes

Refresh your look by buying new to you clothes and shoes. You can even restyle your finds simply like this t-shirt that’s been reimagined with some fancy dancy cuts and weaving.

5. Lunch bag or containers

Never buy new tubberware again. You can score plastic cases of all shapes and sizes ideal for packing up your lunch. You can even find reusable lunch bags and thermoses.
